It is slowly getting dark. Slowly, the majestic trees are spectacularly illuminated, as are the monumental facades. There are sounds, but you can't exactly recognise them yet. Images of Harlingen now and in the past appear on three screens. You see the mist on the pier and the Wadden Sea, you hear the melancholic sound of the foghorn, the church bells ring.

Suddenly another sound is heard: it is sounds, is it music? Sound artist and musician Tristan Visser creates live music to accompany the images. From quiet and reserved to loud and present.

The images on the screens change to new representations. This time, we see an old wharf, in the middle of Harlingen city centre. The sounds of the dockyard of the past sound from the boxes and the environment of the garden you are sitting in changes with it. You look from screen to screen, occasionally walking a bit to get a better view.

Again and again there are different themes; the sound and image of woodworkers, then the banging of steel. Seagulls screech and you see the Wadden Sea in all its splendour. The rhythmic sound of a ship's engine. You hear other birds. These are sounds you hear or remember during a ‘port om’ in Harlingen, but which you don't normally listen to. They are just there. In this performance, you listen to them as if they were music: a concert with sound and image.

The performance will premiere during the Tall Ships Race Harlingen 2026. The combination of these techniques and angles make this performance the multimedia event of the Tall Ship Races 2026. Sounds of Harlingen is an initiative of the Barentszwerf and is a production by Nico Huisman and Bernard Kramer from Harlingen.

Location: Garden of the Hannemahuis, Voorstraat 54-56 in Harlingen

Entrance fee: €5.00

Buy your ticket

[38,39,40
post-9843","programma","type-programma","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","programmadag-vrijdag-3-juli","programmadag-zaterdag-4-juli","programmadag-zondag-5-juli
["GET
