The ship has several merits to its name, including: the oldest fully tethered ship in use in the world, the first Norwegian training ship to cross the Atlantic and the first tall ship to offer sailing training for women.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>History<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The S\u00f8rlandet was built in 1927 in Kristiansand, Norway. The ship's name means the southern land. The fully tethered ship was intended to train young people for merchant, commercial shipping. In the 1970s, the demand for this training decreased and the ship expanded its operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Sail along as a trainee on the S\u00f8rlandet<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Young people aged between 15 and 25 can apply to sail on the S\u00f8rlandet from Aarhus to Harlingen.
