The Abel Tasman, formerly known as the Hermann, was built in 1913 at a shipyard in Waterhuizen; at that time, the vessel served as a sailing cargo ship. It was subsequently sold to Denmark, where it was renamed Laksen and its hull was lengthened. In the winter of 1989, it was converted into a comfortable charter vessel and the hull was shortened back to its original dimensions. It was eventually renamed the Abel Tasman in 1998, after the explorer Abel J. Tasman. Today, the ship offers a variety of multi-day cruises, but can also be booked for day trips, corporate outings, team-building events or presentations. This year, the Abel Tasman will only be in Harlingen harbour on Friday 3 July.
