Sail InZicht, the pre-fun starts here

With Sail Insight, we are already putting Harlingen in the maritime mood a week before the Tall Ships Races. A week full of stories, films, exhibitions and inspiration in nautical spheres.

Thanks to cooperation with Dock5 and Milûk we have put together a great programme, which can be experienced in Harlingen from 21 to 27 June.

Harlingen by the Sea through the eyes of an artist

Harlingen by the sea - through the eyes of an artist is an exhibition where you can experience Harlingen by the sea through various art forms. From acrylic to watercolour and from photography to object art everything is related to the port city of Harlingen. Will we see you at the festive opening? You might even find a work of art, made by a local artist, that fits perfectly in your home.

During the open afternoon on Tuesday 23 June between 2 pm and 5 pm, you can, among other things:

  • Swimming with wild dolphins through VR glasses.
  • Learn more about the dangers of plastic in the sea with Strong Jerke at the do-see and experience centre and SkoônSeun.
  • Discovering the history of Frisian blue pottery.
  • Visit various temporary exhibitions, from Wetterskip Fryslân and expedition Harlingen, among others.

Wetterskip Fryslân: On the hunt for exotics - discover our surprising water inhabitants
What exactly are exotics? Why do they sometimes pose a problem for our wildlife and waterways? And how do we ensure that water remains safe, clean and manageable? You get a unique look behind the scenes of Wetterskip Fryslân's work. Employees explain how exotic animals and plants are tracked down, controlled and combated, and show how this works in practice. An instructive and surprising experience about species that do not really belong here.

Captain's Dinner & In conversation with Astrid Pascal and Marijke Sjollema

Enjoy a delicious maritime meal followed by Simone Scheffer in conversation with
Astrid Pascal and Marijke Sjollema.

The book: The Captain and I - a true story of letting go, love and courage.

Astrid Pascal (58) sailed the world without any sailing experience. She did not know what port
or starboard, but thought - like her childhood idol Pippi Longstocking: “I've never done it before, so I think I can do it.”

The Dolphin Swim Club

After a special encounter with a wild dolphin, Marijke Sjollema founded the Dolphin Swim Club in 2015. The organisation uses art, nature and virtual reality to make therapeutic experiences with dolphins accessible - completely animal-friendly and without real captive animals.

With VR goggles, visitors can experience what it is like to swim among wild dolphins and experience the calming effect for themselves. During the presentation, Marijke also talks about how this experience is now being used in more than 4,500 hospitals worldwide.

Date: Thursday 25 June

Time: 6pm

Location: Milûk

Price captain's dinner and in conversation with Astrid Pascal and Marijke Sjollema: € 25.00
