We would be delighted to welcome you on Monday 6 July and to reflect together on the significance of the port city of Harlingen for the past, present and future. 

Programme

08.30: A welcome with coffee at the De Handelskade Pavilion.

08.45: Welcome and an introduction to the organisations taking part in De Handelskade.

09.15: A group walk along the quay to the Entrepot Building.

09.30: Coffee and a treat, plus a programme packed with interesting content, featuring:

  • A contribution by Hanno Brands on the historical development of the port city of Harlingen;
  • A discussion on the current and future significance of the port for the economy of Friesland and the Northern Netherlands;
  • The presentation of a special ship’s chest, filled with local produce, to the captain of a tall ship. The ship’s chest is passed on to other participating port cities and symbolises the centuries-old links between ports, trade and transport by water;
  • Please note that Sail Training International this year marks the 70th anniversary of The Tall Ships Races celebrates.

10.30 am: Conclusion.
