The Grossherzogin Elisabeth is a true beauty. This old lady was built in 1909 as a merchant schooner and is therefore over a hundred years old. However, she has not spent all those years as a sailing ship. In 1936, the rigging was dismantled and she continued as a motor coaster until she was sold to German owners in 1971. They restored the rigging to its former glory and turned her back into a fully-fledged sailing ship. This year, the Grossherzogin Elisabeth will only be in the harbour of Harlingen on Sunday 5 July.
