This ship was built by the Italian Navy in 1994. It was initially used for training cadets and officers. In 1996/1998, the Orsa Maggiore was the Italian Navy's first yacht and sailed around the world twice. In 1997, a record was set when crossing from Brisbane (Australia) to Noumea (New Caledonia), this record is still unbeaten.
