Spaniel was designed in 1979 in Poland. The ship was built as a one-handed ocean racer. From 1982 to 1997, the Academy of Science used the Spaniel for research and occasionally for cruising and racing. Since 1997, the ship has been privately owned and engaged in sailing training for Latvian youngsters and many successes during the Tall Ships Races.
