The Morgenster is a tall ship that has a long history. It is a classic, square-rigged two-master. This clipper-brik, with steel hull, has been converted into a fast, manoeuvrable training ship after many owners and renovations.
History
Launched in 1919 as a herring lugger, the Morgenster was built at the Boot shipyard in Alphen. In 1927, the ship was motorised and lengthened seven metres, after which it was named Morgenster. Until 1970, the ship was used as a motorised fishing vessel. After this, the ship was sold to Jaq Vrolijk who used her in day trips. He sold it on to a Rotterdam singer. In 1983, Marian and Harry Muter bought the ship and began a long-term restoration in Spaarndam. In June 2008, the ship was blessed by Maria van der Hoeve and was once again a fast and reliable tall ship.
