Wylde Swan

Wylde Swan

Wylde Swan is the tall ship with a Frisian name and has Makkum as its home port. It is the largest two-masted topsail schooner in the world.

History

Built in Germany in 1920, the hull of the Wylde Swan originally served as a steamship for the herring fleet. The ship is long and narrow; so she could sail to the port of Hamburg with freshly caught fish as quickly as possible. In 2007, the ship's hull was brought to the Netherlands and converted into a modern training ship. Every summer, the schooner sails a race against the big windjammers. And not without success! In 2011, the Wylde Swan was the Over All winner of the Tall Ships Races.

Sail along as a trainee

The Wylde Swan is fully booked. Are you between 15 and 25 years old and would you like to sail as a trainee on the leg from Aarhus to Harlingen? This is still possible on Statsraad Lehmkuhl, Sørlandet and Saeftinghe.
